Abstract: Home infusion pharmacy has been an integral part of the alternate-site home-care industry since the late 1970s. However, there is little published research regarding the resources required to provide infusion pharmacy services to home patients. This article presents a short history of pharmacy productivity measurement efforts and a basic primer about pharmacy productivity measurement and benchmarking. It is intended to help a pharmacy manager lay the groundwork for measuring the time needed to complete a variety of pharmacy tasks. Tables provide information regarding compounding times per dose and clinical pharmacy duties and a form for recording best practices time allowed per activity is provided.
