Abstract:  This discussion centers on the difficulties encountered by compounding pharmacists in billing third-party payers for compounded preparations, covering the hazards of ignoring the risks and safeguarding third-party transactions. An example of a contract addendum for a provider agreement for compounding services is included. The author concludes that compounding pharmacists should support favorable legislation and continue to try to gain equitable terms from third parties. He encourages readers to take a hands-on approach and be heard and, among other things, educate plan members and their sponsors.
