Abstract:  The American Veterinary Medical Association is on record as supporting much of the enforcement language of Compliance Policy Guide (CPG) 608.400, “Compounding of Drugs for Use in Animals,” published by the US Food and Drug Administration. There are, however, specific points of revision that would facilitate the delivery of proven veterinary medical therapy to nonfood animals. Specific suggested revisions would have no negative impacts on human food safety, animal health, or the pharmaceutical and compounding pharmacy professions.
