Abstract:  Waterless alcohol-based hand sanitizers with persistent activity are among the most effective products that prevent the pathogenic contamination of pharmaceutical compounds. Selecting the best antiseptic hand scrub can be challenging, but that choice is critical. In this article, we review the important elements of hand hygiene and contamination control in the compounding pharmacy and compare several alcohol-based hand sanitizers that comply with established standards for pharmacy use. A table of those products is provided for easy reference.
