Regulatory Issues for the Use of Bulk Drugs in Veterinary Compounding

Abstract:  Regulations for the use of bulk drugs in animals are unclear. In this article, the author focuses on US food and drug regulations, use of bulk drugs to compound for humans and animals, US Food and Drug Administration regulations governing the use of bulk drugs, and regulatory actions. Tables provide a list of proposed bulk drugs suitable for use in compounding for humans, drug products not to be used in compounding and drugs prohibited for extralabel use in food-producing animals.
