Abstract: Antioxidants are among a number of excipients commonly added to pharmaceutical systems to enhance physical and chemical stability. This discussion covers preventing oxidation, selecting an antioxidant and using antioxidants. Tables provide information regarding the mechanism of action of antioxidants and their solubility in water, alcohol and oil; and adjuvants, chelating agents and/or synergists and their water, alcohol and oil solubilities.
