Abstract: This article addresses the 12 official ointment bases: diethylene glycol monoethyl ether; lanolin; ointment, hydrophilic; ointment, white; ointment, yellow; polyethylene glycol ointment; petrolatum; petrolatum, hydrophilic; petrolatum, white; rose water ointment; squalane and vegetable oil, hydrogenated, type II. A table provides information regarding the physicochemical characteristics of and containers for official ointment bases.
