Abstract: A lidocaine-releasing adhesive buccal tablet preparation was developed to treat mouth ulcers in a patient who did not tolerate magic mouthwash. The tablet, applied locally, was compressed in a manual pellet press from a powder mixture of lidocaine hydrochloride, Carbopol-934, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone K-30, and D-mannitol. With careful local administration of lidocaine from the buccal patch, several side effects of magic mouthwash can be avoided.
