Abstract

The reader is led through the calculations required to solve four problems. The first involves a formula for ethinyl estradiol 0.2-mg gelatin troches and shows the reader how to calculate the quantity of ethinyl estradiol contained in each troche if the formula is not adjusted to prepare 24 troches in a particular mold, along with the percent error in the dose, and the adjustment necessary to make 24 troches. The second involves a formula for progesterone sublingual drops and shows the reader how to calculate the quantity of progesterone delivered in each drop. The third involves a formula for triple estrogen/progesterone/testosterone capsules and shows the reader how to calculate the weight of the content of each capsule and the weight range for these capsules to fall within a 5% error. The fourth involves a dose of diethylstilbestrol for urinary incontinence in dogs and shows the reader how to calculate the daily dose for a dog, the percent strength of drug in the syrup, the quantity of drug needed to prepare a 5-day supply of the syrup, the weekly dose of drug for the dog, the percent strength of drug in the syrup and the quantity of drug needed to prepare a 2-month supply of the syrup.
