Abstract: The reader is shown how to perform calculations for four problems. The first involves an order for a hyperalimentation solution and shows how to calculate the volume of each additive needed and the final volume of the solution. The second shows how to calculate the number of kilocalories per day that the patient in the first problem would receive if the flow rate of the solution is 80 mL/hour. The third involves a solution containing a specified percentage of dextrose using solutions containing two different percentages of dextrose and shows how to calculate the quantity of each solution that would be needed. The fourth involves a potassium phosphates injection and shows how to calculate the concentration of phosphorus and potassium in the injection.
