Abstract:  Alcohol is used in many industries, either as a component of a final product or during the process of producing specific products. Compounding pharmacists often use alcohol in different preparations as a solvent, a preservative or both. It may be important for the compounding pharmacist to know the specific denaturants contained in a product before they are used in the compounding of a prescription, especially if a patient is allergic to a specific denaturant in the product. Tables provide information concerning denaturants in specially denatured alcohols and examples of authorized uses of specially denatured alcohols.
