Abstract: The author, director of clinical pharmaceutics at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, discusses the profession of pharmacy, pharmacy school curricula, the uniqueness of the field of pharmacy in patient care and the need for cultivating the whole “tree” of pharmacy to ensure healthy growth. Pharmacy school curricula should be designed to recognize the value pharmacists bring to patient care when an understanding of drug products is present along with an understanding of therapeutics.
