Abstract: The physical and chemical stability of amphotericin B in a mixture of Fungizone® and Optimoist® was studied. The mixture was prepared by mixing equal volumes of Fungizone and Optimoist. The rate of sedimentation of amphotericin B was evaluated in Fungizone, Fungizone:Optimoist (1:1) and Fungizone:distilled water (1:1) mixture. The chemical stability of amphotericin B in a mixture of Fungizone:Optimoist (1:1) was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography from samples stored at different temperatures. The rate of sedimentation was faster when Fungizone was mixed with distilled water as compared to Optimoist. Amphotericin B was stable for three weeks stored in the refrigerator (4°C) and for three weeks at room temperature (25°C). Fungizone can be diluted with Optimoist for topical application. The mixture should be shaken well before administration in order to disperse any sediment.
