Abstract:  When a veterinarian asks for guidance about drug use in an animal, the pharmacist must consider the following factors before determining the route of administration: species, size, nutritional status of patient, owner’s skill in administering medication, nature of the medication (stability, solubility, dose and taste), metabolism of the patient, available forms of the drug, target site of drug action and cost of the medication. Considering these factors improves the likelihood of a successful outcome.
