Abstract: Ophthalmic drug delivery is one of the most interesting and challenging areas of drug dosage form development. This discussion centers on mucoadhesive dosage forms, microparticles and nanoparticles, liposomes, pluronic thermosensitive gels, iontophoresis, a new ophthalmic drug-delivery system, collagen shields, disposable contact lens delivery systems, penetration enhancers and collagen sponge strips. The article concludes with the statement that many new and novel drug-delivery systems for ophthalmics are being developed and investigated to make ophthalmic drug administration easier and more efficacious.
