Abstract: The business plan is a written document providing the business owner with a clear understanding of the mission and purpose of the business enterprise. It can be used to maximize the managerial efficiency of an established business, and it is essential in securing the capital necessary for establishing a new enterprise. The authors, who also wrote How to Write a Business Plan for a Compounding Specialty Pharmacy, a step-by-step instruction manual, discuss the three categories of information in business plans, reasons for developing a business plan, writing the business plan, the cover sheet, a summary of the loan request, the marketing plan, description of the physical design of the business, financial data and documents and supporting documentation.
