Abstract: Water is the best known and most abundant of all chemical compounds occurring in a relatively pure form on the earth’s surface. This article discusses potable water; Purified Water USP; Water for Injection USP; Sterile Water for Injection USP; Bacteriostatic Water for Injection USP; Sterile Water for Inhalation USP; sterile water for irrigation; carbon dioxide-free water; deaerated water; and bromine water, chlorine water and stronger ammonia water. It also covers tests that can be performed with minimal equipment for checking water quality at a local facility. Tables provide information regarding characteristics and specifications for the different USP waters and some uses or applications of the different USP waters for compounding purposes.
