Abstract: The reader is shown how to perform calculations for three problems. The first involves a patient who has been receiving meperidine hydrochloride intramuscularly every 4 hours as needed following surgery due to an automobile accident; and it shows how to calculate the dose of fentanyl that should be supplied to the patient in a patch. The second involves calculating the dose of methadone required by a heroin addict based on the amount of drug the patient was taking. The third involves a suspension containing ketorolac tromethamine for an elderly patient unable to swallow tablets and shows how to calculate quantities for prepare the prescription using Toradol 10-mg tablets.
