Abstract: The author presents a procedure for the extemporaneous filling of hard-shell gelatin capsules (the Rule of Sixes) to assist in selecting the proper capsule size. Two tables provide information regarding bulk densities of typical pharmaceutical actives and excipients and bulk densities of inorganic pharmaceutical excipients.
