Abstract:  The author, chair of the United States Pharmacopeia Expert Committee on Nonsterile Pharmacy Compounding, provides background on the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and discusses the role of the USP, quality, education, dispensing, costs, market, composition and concerns. To summarize, it is evident that it is time for the USP to address the needs of the practice of pharmacy with a Pharmacists’ Pharmacopeia.
