Abstract:  This article, which was originally published in CleanRooms magazine, was drawn from an email dialogue between Johan VandenBroucke, PhD, senior pharmacist at University Hospital Ghent, in Ghent, Belgium, and CleanRooms columnist and Editorial Advisory Board member Hank Rabe. The dialogue concerns the proper design of a safe and manageable contamination control system incorporating isolators. The discussion focuses on the use of open and closed systems for contamination prevention and the role of isolators in these systems.
