Abstract:  This article is a reprint from Maximize Your Vitality and Potency for Men Over 40, published in 1999 by Smart Publications. The authors begin by saying that there is good reason to believe that declining testosterone levels may lay the groundwork for some of the destructive changes that ultimately lead up to a heart attack or stroke. They then discuss atherosclerosis and angina pectoris and methods of treating them; ways testosterone protects the heart; decreasing risk factors; normalizing blood lipids; keeping testosterone and estrogen in balance; the Danish physician Jens Moller, MD, and his colleague, Dr. Tvedegaard; Moller’s legacy and DHEA and the heart. The article contains 69 references and runs with a sidebar entitled “The Trouble With Anabolic Steroid Drugs.”

Related Keywords: heart disease, heart attack, stroke, atherosclerosis, claudication, balloon angioplasty, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, circulation, angina pectoris, blood clotting, estrogen, estradiol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, cholesterol, Moller, cholesterol-lowering drugs, "syndrome X", "metabolic syndrome", dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)
