Abstract:  Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor indicated for peptic ulcer disease, reflux esophagitis and hypersecretory conditions, is known to be inactivated by gastric acidity. In this article, the author provides suggestions for administering omeprazole to a patient who cannot swallow the capsule whole or who has a nasogastric or gastrostomy tube or a jejunostomy tube.
