Abstract: This discussion focuses on the importance of viscosity, quality-control applications, theory (Newtonian flow, non-Newtonian flow), types of viscometers, temperature effects, calibration and use and care and cleaning. Tables provide the absolute viscosity of some Newtonian liquids at room temperature and approximate viscosity of some aqueous gels at room temperature. Figures show a plot of shear force versus shear rate, Newtonian flow, plastic flow, pseudoplastic flow and dilatant flow.
