Quality-Control Analytical Methods: Osmolality and Osmometry
Download in electronic PDF format for $75
Abstract: The author begins by providing a list of seven uses for osmometry in pharmaceutical compounding. He then provides background information, discussing osmotic pressure, vapor-pressure lowering, boiling-point elevation and freezing-point depression. Other sections cover osmolality and tonicity, iso-osmotic and isotonic solutions, osmolarity and osmolality, and instrumentation (osmometers). He concludes that osmometry is a useful analytical tool for compounding pharmacists that can provide valuable quality-control information and that it is easy to use and relatively inexpensive.
