Abstract:  The author begins by discussing the viral cause of warts, the appearance of warts and factors that increase one’s chances of getting warts. He then describes the different types of warts (common, foot, flat and genital), methods for preventing and treating them and drugs used. He provides sample formulations for treating warts, including Acyclovir 5% Ointment, Acyclovir Vaginal Suppository, Cimetidine 10% and Deoxy-D-Glucose 0.25% Cream, Lactic Acid 10% and Salicylic Acid 15% in Flexible Collodion, Podophyllum Resin 25% in Compound Benzoin Tincture, Podophyllum Resin 20% Ointment, Podophyllum 20% Gel, Salicylic Acid 40% Ointment, Squaric Acid Dibutyl Ester 1% Solution, and Trichloroacetic Acid 20% Topical Solution. Tables also provide common tips for preventing exposure to viruses that cause warts and a list of common drugs for treating warts.
