Case Reports: Steroid Substitute Treatment for Psoriasis; Metronidazole for Odor Related to Untreated Metastatic Breast Tumor

Abstract: The patient had experienced psoriasis on the scalp for over 6 years. He had not responded to potent topical steroids but had responded to Skin-Cap, a product available in the Virgin Islands but only briefly available in the United States. The author was asked to prepare a topical zinc pyrithione spray; however, problems developed with this preparation. The original vehicle formulation was made with isopropyl alcohol and 75% isopropyl myristate; however, the vehicle was changed to a 20:80 isopropyl alcohol/myristate, which proved acceptable. The physician later added clobetasol 0.05% to the preparation. The patient is still using the product and has been free of the itching and flaking he had been experiencing before starting this therapy.
