Abstract:  This profile features Richard Stenlake, who has owned and operated his own pharmacy for 25 years from the same site in Bondi Junction, Sydney, Australia. Although his practice is located in a high-traffic area surrounded by medical practices, 80% of his business is mail order. The practice, which employs six nonpharmacist staff who handle 20 telephone lines, two full-time pharmacists, one part-time pharmacist, five pharmacy techs and two mailroom staff, compounds around 100 prescriptions per day. Stenlake attributes the extraordinary growth of his business to the growing interest in hormone replacement therapy in Australia. However, he keeps a high profile and has been extremely successful in generating media attention, mainly through clients in the business. He counsels patients over the telephone, speaks to any doctor that calls and would like to provide lectures in future.
