Abstract:  The authors discuss the use of needle-free intravenous extension devices and supplies (devices that use a needle for administration to the patient but do not use needles for connections up to the patient). In particular, they discuss advantages, examples (Alaris Medical System, Becton Dickinson and Company, Surgical Instrument Warehouse and Vygon Corporation). They conclude that these products and general characteristics are just the vanguard of this evolving area of infusion therapy and that this area will continue to experience innovation and growth.
