Abstract:  The author discusses chronic pain, major categories of pain, assessment tools, treatment of chronic pain and ethical imperatives. Tables provide information regarding common types of neuropathic pain, examples of visual analogue scales, types of analgesics and the World Health Organization Analgesic Ladder for the Treatment of Pain. The author concludes that using the tools in this article will allow successful control of pain.
