Abstract:  Pharmacists involved in compounding must consider a number of factors when determining the actual quantity of an active ingredient to use for a compounded prescription. Many drug substances do not consist of 100% drug or chemical, and adjustments must be made to obtain the required amount of active drug (active pharmaceutical ingredient). This article covers the topic of compounding with “potency-designated” drugs.

Related Keywords: bulk substance potency, biologic agents, biological agents, active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug potency designations, drug activity
