Abstract: Alkalizing agents are used to adjust pH in pharmaceutical products. This discussion covers the following commonly used alkalizing agents: Ammonia Solution, Strong, NF; Ammonium Carbonate NF; Diethanolamine NF; monoethanolamine; Potassium Hydroxide NF; Sodium Bicarbonate USP; Sodium Borate NF; Sodium Carbonate NF; Sodium Hydroxide NF; Sodium Phosphate Dibasic USP and Trolamine NF. A table provides a listing of alkalizing agents and their physicochemical characteristics.
