Abstract

The polysorbates are widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food products. This discussion focuses on preparation, hydrophile-lipophile balance, description of the polysorbates, their uses, formulations of polysorbates, stability and storage and incompatibilities. Tables provide information regarding nomenclature and approximate molecular weights of the polysorbates, their physicochemical characteristics and percentages of the polysorbates according to use.
