Basics of Compounding: Basics of Compounding with Aliquots, Dilutions, and Concentrates
Download in electronic PDF format for $75
Abstract: Pharmacists involved in compounding must consider a number of factors when determining the actual quantity of an active ingredient to use for a compounded prescription. Many drug substances and excipients are available as aliquots, dilutions, and concentrates and do not consist of 100% drug or chemical. Since the bulk substance, or active pharmaceutical ingredient or excipient is not 100% active drug in all cases, then it is important to know the strength of the item so that appropriate allowances can be made to obtain the correct amount.
